I am so honored to share that Authority Magazine featured me in their Female Disruptors series. Thank you so much to Vanessa Morcom and Authority Magazine for inviting me to be part of this project.
They reached out because they wanted to highlight women who are transforming their industries, and in my case, how I am reshaping the psychic industry from the inside out. If you know my work, you know I have always stood by one core belief: Everyone is psychic. Intuition is not a rare gift reserved for a chosen few. It is a skill that anyone can learn, strengthen, and master with the right structure and guidance.
The interview also dives into why ethics matter so much in this work. The psychic industry has been misunderstood for a long time, and raising our standards is how we rebuild trust. When we hold ourselves accountable and encourage others to do the same, the entire spiritual community rises with us. I am redefining what it means to be a modern psychic by committing everyday to create a more grounded, ethical, and credible approach to psychic development.
It feels surreal to see psychic development represented in a space that usually spotlights CEO's and founders. This feature was such a powerful reminder that grounded, teachable intuition deserves a seat at the table too!
Thank you again to the team for such a thoughtful feature! I poured my heart into this one.
Female Disruptors: Lauryn Kellett On The Three Things You Need To Shake Up Your Industry
Karen Fox taught me and the rest of her students that “Psychic skills are like muscles — the more you use them, the stronger they get.” This piece of advice is what kept me going in my early days whenever my confidence faltered and it’s what I preach to my students daily now. For example, I’ve watched students go from picking up one-word answers to giving 30-minute in-depth readings in just a few months because of their consistent practice. You can’t master any skill overnight, and your psychic ability is no different!
Asa part of our series about women who are shaking things up in their industry, we had the pleasure of interviewing Lauryn Kellett.
Psychic Lauryn is a psychic development coach who has helped thousands of intuitive seekers strengthen their psychic abilities and lead more spiritually aligned lives. Known internationally for her educational YouTube channel and the Psychic Development Society, Lauryn is redefining what it means to be a modern psychic. In an industry that has long faced stereotypes, she brings integrity through her grounded and ethical teaching approach, proving that intuition can be both credible and teachable.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we dig in, our readers would like to get to know you a bit more. Can you tell us a bit about your “backstory”? What led you to this particular career path?
I love sharing my backstory because it’s not one that people hear often with psychics! I didn’t have a major awakening, near-death experience, or crazy story from my childhood. In 2011, I lost my family dog, my grandfather and my great-grandmother. My German Sheperd’s passing was the most abrupt, and naturally, I was left with so many questions: mainly was he still around? Like so many people who come to me for mediumship readings today, I needed to know he was okay.
So I went to a local psychic fair, sat down at an Animal Communicator’s table (shoutout to one of my many mentors, Lizanne Flynn) and received the most mind-blowing reading. She told me things about my dog and myself that no one would have known. And she told me that I was psychic too, “I’m sorry, what?” I remember thinking.
This led me to start exploring how people could even develop their psychic abilities. Next thing I knew, I was taking classes at the Aspen Program for Psychic Development, reading volunteers almost every weekend. I started to see that having intuitive hits wasn’t just a coincidence and that when I learned new tools and techniques, it actually started to become more accurate and happen more often. I graduated from the program in 2014, started my business, and I’ve been reading and coaching ever since.
My foundations at this program proved definitively to me that everyone is psychic. I was able to actively develop my psychic abilities from the ground up, and I’ve since witnessed hundreds of my students do the same. This value is the core of my teaching: the intuitive ability is a skill, not a gift only chosen for a select few, and anyone can strengthen it.
Can you tell our readers what it is about the work you’re doing that’s disruptive?
What makes my work disruptive is that I’m turning a misunderstood profession into one grounded in professionalism and accountability. The hardest part about being a psychic is all of the misinformation, stereotypes, and bad actors who inevitably come with the territory. I didn’t realize when I got into this career how much of an uphill battle many women and men face just to be seen as trustworthy. I was a video producer before this, went to film school, and even won some Emmys! I wasn’t used to the automatic rejection and dismissal. Coming from a career where my work was instantly respected, it was jarring to step into one where I had to constantly prove not just my work, but the profession in itself.
It’s been my mission to actively debunk stereotypes around psychics since day one. “Yes, psychics can absolutely be wrong.” “No, you shouldn’t use psychics as your therapist.” “Sometimes reading the future isn’t the best thing that’s going to help you right now.”
You know the saying, “A rising tide lifts all boats”? I encourage my students and viewers to be skeptical, have boundaries, and maintain a high standard of ethics when they approach their intuitive work. When we hold each other to those standards, our clients start expecting that from intuitive workers, and the whole spiritual community has to rise because of it. Part of my approach is to also make sure that my clients get more than just ‘fluff teaching’ — it’s not all theory, it’s practice too. When it comes to mastering any skill, you need structure, tools, practice, and measurable progress. Unfortunately, it’s all too easy to pick up a spiritual book, read it once, and call yourself a psychic nowadays. With no governing body of psychics out there, it’s hard to know who’s truly skilled and who could be a scammer (because yes, they do exist). That’s why I founded the Psychic Development Society: to create courses and a step-by-step curriculum with (yes) even homework! I wanted to create an online community where aspiring intuitives could develop their abilities with confidence, structure, and accountability.
There are so many amazing intuitives out there doing this work with so much purpose and soul and they deserve recognition. If we want to be seen as a legitimate industry, I know that change has to start with the next generation of intuitives, because they are the future of what this industry can be.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
Not when I was first starting, but a more recent funny story: I was hosting my usual virtual monthly Psychic Development Practice Night with my Society students. At the beginning of the call, as we were waiting for people to trickle in, I made a joke about how I once lost power during a virtual workshop I taught about a month or so prior.
We got on with our psychic practice exercise for that night, and about ten minutes into the call, I heard a loud zap — my computer turned off, and the power in my entire neighborhood went out. I jumped back into the call from my phone, and everyone cracked up when I told them I’d just lost power!
In a group like this, we all know it’s not a coincidence, but rather that I was probably subconsciously picking up that it was going to happen. I had to coach the entire night’s class from my phone in the dark, but my students were great sports about it.
That night taught me that sometimes you can channel things accidentally — like hey, your power is about to go out — and that even as a seasoned psychic, you might still miss those messages coming through.
We all need a little help along the journey. Who have been some of your mentors? Can you share a story about how they made an impact?
Gosh, I have had so many amazing mentors along the way. My first mentor, Karen Fox, taught me everything I know about psychic abilities and how to be a skeptical and ethical reader. She forced us to rely on our natural abilities instead of physical tools like tarot cards, and to practice reading people in person (which can be terrifying when you’re first starting). If it weren’t for her and the Aspen Program for Psychic Development, I wouldn’t be the well-rounded reader that I am today. When I took her program, I was the youngest by far in the group, and she continuously made sure that I wasn’t judged for my age. When one of our volunteers gave me a review saying that I didn’t have enough “life experience to be giving readings,” it was Karen who reminded me that psychic information shouldn’t come from your own experience or bias, but rather from spirit. That I was just the channel for information to flow through, not the originator, so my life experience shouldn’t be involved regardless.
I’ve studied animal communication, mediumship, medical intuition, Reiki, tarot, shamanic practices, and now astrology with a wide variety of mentors. I’ve always been a continuous learner and love soaking up new information. I think the best teachers are the ones who are constantly learning and honing their skills, so I strive to do the same.
In today’s parlance, being disruptive is usually a positive adjective. But is disrupting always good? When do we say the converse, that a system or structure has ‘withstood the test of time’? Can you articulate to our readers when disrupting an industry is positive, and when disrupting an industry is ‘not so positive’? Can you share some examples of what you mean?
I love this question, because yes, being disruptive can be both bad and good. Being disruptive should be like coming into a building, giving it a renovation and a fresh coat of paint. Yes, it’s disruptive because it’s construction — loud and messy — but that’s because we’re building it better.
Unfortunately, the spiritual industry is often associated with the more negative disruptors: those who exploit spirituality, make wild predictions, fear monger, don’t actually use their psychic abilities, scam people, or treat psychic work as entertainment without integrity. Those “bad eggs,” as I always say, seem to get a lot of the limelight because people recognize that inauthenticity.
I want to build the spiritual industry up by raising its standards. Positive disruption looks like teachers and coaches who bring structure, accountability, and ethics to their students. That’s what I focus on in the Psychic Development Society. We’re cleaning it up and rebuilding it so the foundation is stronger and people can trust intuitive workers again.
I truly believe that psychic work has survived centuries of skepticism because there are so many real, grounded readers quietly holding it together in the background. I have seen a steady shift toward a more positive view on us even within the last decade. Mia Magik (a witch) has been featured on Fox News talking about rituals. Amy Poehler has discussed astrology with guests on her Good Hang podcast. It’s becoming so normal to talk about it now. I regularly am getting hired to come read at parties: halloween parties, teen birthdays, and even weddings! I can tell my hairstylist or barista at the coffee shop that I’m a psychic, and they actually get excited about it! That’s not something you could easily do a few decades ago.

Can you share 3 of the best words of advice you’ve gotten along your journey? Please give a story or example for each.
2. Yet another lesson from Karen: “Be willing to be wrong.” And oh goodness, will you be. The hardest lesson I still have to accept to this day is that we, as psychics, can and will be wrong — because we’re human. The belief that psychics are 100% right, 100% of the time, is not only unrealistic, it’s irresponsible. I’ve certainly had off days, readings where I didn’t connect the best, I’ve made mistakes and I own up to it. The ethical psychics out there don’t claim to be perfect, so why should the world hold us to that standard?
Before every reading, I make sure to tell every client that I can be wrong. Because when I lower that impossible standard for myself, it actually helps me be more accurate: I’m more relaxed by not trying to be perfect!
3. The best piece of advice I’ve needed the most over the years came from my husband: keep going. In an industry where your integrity is constantly in question and you often feel alone and swimming upstream, it’s easy to want to give up. In my early days, when I had practically no clients and it felt like everyone was turning up their nose at my new “silly hobby”, my husband always had faith that I could do big things. Even when I was offered a spot to star on a television show that would have compromised my ethics, he applauded my decision to turn it down.
He encouraged me to stay consistent, show up, and stay grounded in my values and beliefs. Looking back, that advice is one I constantly share with my students who aspire to build their own businesses — that consistency and trust in the process are what help you build the career you dream of and attract the people who are right for you.
We are sure you aren’t done. How are you going to shake things up next?
I’m so excited to share that I’m currently building the Psychic Development Academy! The Academy is the highest level of certification and mentorship I offer, specifically made for psychics who are ready to take their abilities and business to the next level.
I found over the last few years that some of my advanced students reach a point where they feel like their abilities are strong, but they don’t feel fully equipped to turn those abilities into a professional, sustainable career. They struggle to attract consistent clients, build confidence with their pricing and services, or know how to market themselves. Even though my students were excellent readers, they were losing steam in their business, which broke my heart.
So the Psychic Development Academy will bridge the gap between intuitive mastery and professional practice. My goal is to help my already talented readers stop second-guessing themselves, undercharging, and feeling drained. I want them to not feel alone, stop playing small, and be seen as a pro! Although not everyone in my Society is growing their business, those who are will have all the shortcuts I wish I had when I first started.
In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges faced by ‘women disruptors’ that aren’t typically faced by their male counterparts?
The spiritual industry is an interesting one because, inherently, both men and women can face similar struggles simply because of the field we’re in. Men might not always receive the automatic credibility they might get in other typical professions.
However, gender stereotypes still absolutely exist. I’ve found that at metaphysical fairs (large events with multiple readers offering readings to attendees) the men often have the longest lines. Men with spiritual or astrological YouTube channels also tend to be trusted more than women. Women disruptors in the spiritual and wellness industry often have to fight even harder to avoid being seen as “too sensitive” or “too out there.” But I actually see that as their superpower: they’ve learned to embrace those labels as strengths and use them to create more authentic connections with their audiences.
That’s the kind of disruption I’m here for: women leading with empathy and intuition.
Do you have a book/podcast/talk that’s had a deep impact on your thinking? Can you share a story with us?
I found the book Lucky Bitch by Denise Duffield-Thomas early on in my career, and it was so transformational for me. It’s all about having a positive money mindset and working through any limiting beliefs you have around finances. It helped me shift from feeling guilty about charging for my spiritual work to realizing that you can be ethical and abundant at the same time. Money is just energy — it’s neutral — and it’s a means of compensation for your time and energy. That one book completely changed how I run my business and how I teach my students to confidently embrace charging for their own services.
You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)
Beyond my work as a psychic, I’m passionate about animal rights, protecting our environment, supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, and empowering others to become more politically active. Creating a world where everyone can live, love, and exist peacefully should be a basic human right and just common sense, in my opinion.
If I could inspire a movement, I’d start with environmental action, because I believe it’s one of the most urgent issues we face. I’ve contributed to projects like TeamSeas, which helps clean up our oceans, and ActBlue, to support progressive state campaigns. I’m also in the process of setting up a partnership with B1G1, where a percentage of all my reading proceeds will go toward worthy causes that make an impact.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
I have no idea who said this, but it was one of those quotes you find on Instagram that pops up at the perfect time: “She silently stepped out of the race she didn’t want to be in, found her own lane, and proceeded to win.” I found this at a time when I was scared to make the transition from leaving my full-time job as a video producer to jumping into being a psychic. I was tired and unmotivated, hustling for very little in return, and constantly anxious. My heart wanted to do this work, but I was so afraid of what other people would think. I was afraid of being seen as weird. I was worried about all the hard work and time I had spent investing into my career in the film industry. But this quote kept me going because it resonated so deeply. Film was not the race I wanted to be in. It was confirming that I wasn’t failing, I was trusting my intuition and heading to the lane that lit me up the most. Now, I wake up every day excited to do the work I love, surrounded by inspiring students, and finding that abundance comes with more ease. I think I’ve finally found my lane and I’m winning on my own terms.
